Perhaps a special extended "Drill" would boost the morale of all concerned, "Drill,Drill,Drill",
a bit of Wire dugga amongst the industrial drill dugga would be fun and maybe the interplay between the two would spur both parties on to a crescendo of splenetic overdrive and hopefully no worn out bits ;-). Any other song suggestions for such a gig are welcome. I really do hope the miners are rescued and as soon as possible.

    Some kind of Einst├╝rzende Wirebauten?

there are hundreds, possibly thousands if 'causes' in the world, should Wire play for all of them? as Eartha Kitt remarked while touring Africa several years ago 'I used to give to every cause that came along, eventually I had to stop because I had nothing left to give and nothing left for myself'......... I also think that, even if (and we know they would) they donated all proceeds to the miners it could/would still be regarded as 'exploitation' by the critics.

@ Mixtil: Einsturzende Wirebauten! I like it!!

@ Ari: I know that comment was well intentioned but talk about stating the obvious! Of course Wire (or anyone else for that matter) can't support every worthy cause in the world and nor would i expect it of them but i just thought that a band that has songs like "Outdoor Miner" and "Drill" might have an interest in the situation, no benefit gig need be played but just a quick dedication before an apt number would be sufficient. It would be the obvious course for critics to take with regard to benefit gigs where the motives are somewhat questionable. The obvious, easiest and most titillating course for the interested music fan as well if we're being honest.

good idea!! I think I thought you were suggesting a benefit concert, (which would be nice), I simply thought if they did their motives would/could be misconstrued .

Thanks Ari! I couldn't imagine what justification Wire could present for playing a benefit (sad that you'd need to justify it at all, but such is the cynical world we live in) and it would indeed be miscontrued by media cynics/critics/hacks et all. A member of Wire would have to uncover a long lost Chilean antecedent in order to resist the inevitable flak! If they did go to Chile it would be an idea to collaborate with some sort of Chilean folk group (mariachi style?) and do a couple of stripped down versions of pertinently themed songs. Can you imagine a Mariachi 'Drill'?!! That would be worth a trip to Chile in of itself.

I think Point of Collapse & You can't Leave Now might be (in)appropriate song choices for such a gig!

@ Medulary-ray.... "I think Point of Collapse & You can't Leave Now might be (in)appropriate song choices for such a gig!"

Ha ha!! Very funny but also very inappropriate! Maybe the translator could be waylaid for the duration of those numbers!

@Mixtil, Hope you enjoyed the Drill and your drink, we would never have guessed you were drinking ;-)

Certainly monorythmic repetition, possibly not monophonic.
