German TV station ZDF Kulturkanal today confirmed that it is to broadcast in full a recent gig featuring Einstürzende Neubauten, Wire and Caspar Brötzmann

Berlin Live will be broadcast via German TV station ZDF Kulturkanal on the 3rd December 2011 at 21.00hrs (CET) and will also be available to watch online.

The show was filmed on the 15th September 2011 at Trafo in Berlin – Trafo is an extraordinary location for a concert, having once been a former power plant, and provides 7,000 m² of raw industrial space on three main levels, which well compliments the artists featured.

Caspar Brötzmann Massaker ‘played’ for 30 minutes and performed just two songs/compositions.
Wire performed a selection of tracks culled from their extensive career ranging from ‘Pink Flag’ and through to the recent acclaimed ‘Red Barked Tree’ album. (LTW interviewed Wire in Jan 2011)Einstürzende Neubauten performed their ‘hits’ including Let’s Do It A Dada, and Sabrina – the stage was suitably filled with metal that Blixa Bargeld used for percussion.

    Einstürzende Neubauten

The gig also includes interviews with each of the groups by German presenter Silke Super (surely not his real name?)

Full details of the online broadcast of the show will be added to a Facebook Events page in the coming weeks.

ZDF Kulturkanal can be viewed in the UK via the ASTRA 1H satellite; sadly not on your Sky+ box then…

If anyone manages to see this programme can they make a note of the set list and publish here so that I can add details to the ever expanding and ever up-dating Discography (currently at 93 pages of A4)

    many thanks

sure. i have german tv so i should also be able to record it.
in the neubauten newsletter i read that their show should be available for streaming on the ZDF homepage, after it's been shown on tv. so if we're lucky the same applies to the wire show too.

Should be good to see, there some audience footage of a new Drill, featuring Einstürzende Neubauten:

If it's on Mediathek, I should be able to download it. So should anybody else actually - well, at least Mac owners:

Yes, apparently the software is even entirely legal. Let's see if it shows up after December 3rd.

Wow what a great setting for a gig. Is this the German version of Later with Jools Holland?!

And who is the bloke dressed in the blue trenchcoat with the severe haircut who comes on to interview Wire and suddenly speaks perfect English with a broad Manc accent?

It's an interesting concept for a program. Unfortunately the bands are not always as interesting as they were in this particular show.
Funny enough zdf.kulturkanal does also send Later with Jools Holland in Germany.
The guy is Mark Reeder. He's from Manchester but has spent something like 30 years in Berlin doing various things with labels, TVs, magazines etc. I remember him involved in Berlin's techno scene in the 90's. Hadn't heard much about him recently. I guess he's the one who invited the three bands to the show.

Wow, this is excellent... Makes Later With Mr Boogiewoogie look rather l.a.m.e. doesn't it?

Nice to see Mark Reeder again too, I have very fond memories of him fronting a special edition of The Tube, filmed entirely in Berlin, circa 1982-3 - an excellent documentary that spurred on my interest in all things Blixa. Disappointingly, it's not on Youtube as yet... does anybody on here have a copy?

Thanks for the link... that was a lot of fun!

Excellent stuff, really enjoyed that. Probably the most pneumatic filming of Wire there has ever been...

Just as well it's Quicktime footage, as, from a few days ago, a new version of Flashplayer appeared which is not useable on my trusty ol' G4 home computer (a PPC machine), so now I can't watch a damn thing, as it won't allow me to continue using an older version, which strikes me as remarkably unfair to those people, like myself, who can't afford to buy a new Mac... anyone know a way around this ? Deeply frustrating and annoying to say the least.

Shit it looks like they no longer have this online on the ZDF site. Does anyone know where it might be archived elsewhere? I'd love to put a link to it in the next newsletter.
