I know Wire submitted Red Barked Tree to the Mercury judges in 2011 but I'm wondering, if HQ are listening, did they put CBU forward this time?

On another forum there are several people wondering why CBU isn't on the shortlist:

Bear in mind that the Mercury panel don't scour Bandcamp and Soundcloud looking for stuff to select. Bands and Artists have to submit their records for consideration and pay a fee for the privilege, and as I understand it, despite not having major label or management company backing Wire would pay the same fee that the (nominated) Arctic Monkeys and David Bowie pay!
    Stuart Braithwaite from Mogwai says:
"I think that Les Revenants is the 1st record we’ve made that we didn’t put forward for the Mercury. Quite liberating truth be told. We could have bought a couple of decent guitars with the money we’ve spent on being told we’re not as good as Kasabian etc."

DB'll probably stroll it cos of who he is, but if there's any justice Savages'll win - most amazing debut since, i dunno, maybe teh Banshees!

Having said that i really don't care about such awards &, apart from raising their profile, I very much doubt whether Wire do either!

I've never trusted the award after Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan were overlooked in favour of the Arctic Monkeys debut.
Nothing to do with the £20 i had put on at Ladbrokes and I'm not bitter one bit.
