Ever since I bought The Drill (when it came out), I've heard this annoying hiccup in "(A Chicago) Drill (Live)". The problem is around the 8:07 mark and I can't figure it out. After the "Could this be a drill" line, Drill continues but somehow it has lost the groove. The beat appears to be going 1-2-3-4-4-1-2-3-4, or something like that, with that extra 4 being the 8:07 point (when the high hat kicks in). Sloppy editing, mastering error, did Robert miss a beat? Or is it just me? I know I'm about two decades late in asking this but hey, Pinkflag didn't exist back then :-)
I always assumed this rough transition was caused by switching on a drum machine on the fly, i.e. Robert playing live along with the drum machine. And the momentary battle to re-establish sync was consequence of this inspired and spontaneous move. Otherwise, it'd be too easy to fix in post-production.
tortoised - There's a thought. I'd never considered that. Hm....
